&lt;img src="http://www.babble.com/CS/aggbug.aspx?PostID=113030" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item><item><title>re: Are Brangelina Too Posh to Procreate (the Old-Fashioned Way)?</title><link>http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/strollerderby/archive/2008/07/28/too-posh-to-procreate-the-old-fashioned-way.aspx#112898</link><pubDate>Mon, 28 Jul 2008 16:35:18 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">42a08a39-daf3-4129-8a63-8a27b879cc03:112898</guid><dc:creator>Heather O</dc:creator><description>&lt;p&gt;Having been through infertility treatment myself I can say with absolute conviction that it is NOT the way to reduce stress and it is FAR from convenient. &amp;nbsp;Even if you know that the cycle will probably work (because she is theoretically not infertile) there is an incredible amount of scheduling involved. &amp;nbsp;Multiple preliminary appointments to determine hormone levels and timing. &amp;nbsp;You give yourself daily (if not more than once a day) shots in the stomach leaving you covered in bruises. &amp;nbsp;This is accompanied by DAILY blood work and transvaginal ultrasounds, you literally look like a heroine addict with tract marks at the end of a cycle. &amp;nbsp;Not to mention the pain associated with maturing multiple follicles at once (and if you aren't infertile there will be a LOT of them), then the pain of having the eggs surgically removed by a needle through the vaginal wall, then weeks upon weeks of a shot of thick progesterone oil into your butt through an inch and a half needle of large gauge (to allow thick oil through. &amp;nbsp;Since you didn't ovulate naturally you wont make the right hormones to support the early pregnancy without these shots...often for up to 10 or more WEEKS.) &amp;nbsp;By the end your butt is full of hard, painful lumps....The list of hoops to jump through goes on and on and on. &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Phew! In other words I just can NOT understand how someone would go through that if you didn't have to! &amp;nbsp;Its certainly a LOT easier to have sex with Brad Pitt. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;And ditto what AnneAC said...all of this is followed by a HUGE medical bill that your insurance wont pay for.&lt;/p&gt;

IVF for no medical reason, C-section for no medical reason, abortion, whatever...It's not my body or money so it's not my choice.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;On another and unrelated note, I wish there were financial assistance available to middle class folks for IVF and/or adoption expenses. Often the middle class is left to use all of their savings or go into huge debt to have a child using medical technology. Just a thought...I know it's not what the post was about :)&lt;/p&gt;
