But I will question the actions of parents. (Actually, I'll question the music as well, but mostly the parents.)

re: Old Jonas Brothers CD priceless

When I was 7 my parents, aunt and uncle took my cousins and I to see a Tina Turner/Lionel Richie double-bill at Nassau Coliseum. I guess my cousins (who are older than me) were totally in to it, but all I can remember was being so friggin' scared of Tina Turner when she came out with giant spiked hair, giant spiked heels and some gold jumpsuit, that my dad had to take me out of the concert.

Needless to say, they never took me to another concert.

Finally when I was 15, I realized I just HAD to see Sonic Youth play at the Roseland. Seriously, I HAD to, cause they were like 100 years old then and who knew how long they would be alive for.

Of course, Mom and Dad had zero interest in seeing the Youth, so I did what any self-respecting music lover would do: I lied to my parents, told them I was sleeping at a friends and caught a ride to the city (from eastern LI, about a 2 hour drive) to see the show. Hello! It was awesome!

Being a mom now, I realized that my kids would probably one day do this. To that end, we moved the family out of the cultural void we call the Hamptons and moved them into a small, liberal city where they won't have to drive 2 hours to sneak out to see a show; they can just use public transpo. and be home by 1am. Ha! And my Dad thought I didn't learn from his mistakes...
