&lt;p&gt;Thing 1 was &amp;nbsp;born in WA, and to go on a tangent here, was an incredbile experience. &amp;nbsp;Fantastic.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The hospital and staff in L.A. felt like we had gone backwards 20 years.&lt;/p&gt;

If you are just the husband or wife who will not stay home with the child you will still get a week off, paid.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Five weeks, btw, is really way too short. Six months, like what many other countries offer, would be much better for the kid and the parent.&lt;/p&gt;
