The results were "mixed." While there were more 5's (the best score you

re: Do kids do better on tests if they get paid?

Instead of paying your kid, you should spend a couple of bucks and buy some Think Gum. I buy it for my kids and it seems to help them stay focused.

I do know that not all students have people encouraging them to take advanced classes. Perhaps this is the thing that pushes them to trying. After taking a class, maybe they will see the merit in being challenged more and take more classes. It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this experiment is.

There are definitely many benefits of kids being challenged in Advanced Placement classes. The difficult part will be to assure that the courses remain challenging and keep their high expectations as more students opt for these classes. It will be important for schools to make this a conscience effort.

The schools are just trying to up their test scores. This isn't about motivating students to learn or love learning or become lifetime learning. All it teaches them is that nothing is worth doing unless you get paid.
