See, if the Democrats had done this, you would have heard a chorus of "Flip! Flop

re: They say: Sarah Palin should step down

One thing that I thought was interesting, from a family member who has been canvassing for Obama in a swing state - she said that there were a lot of divided households, where the women were for Obama, and the men for Palin. These families reported that they had both been for Obama earlier, but the choice of Palin swayed the men - because she's not only a "beautiful woman" (not something I agree with at all) but also a "tough girl." I was surprised to hear that - just thought it was interesting.

I thought I could really help the Republican ticket and in some ways I did, but in the most important ways I am not helping. For that reason I believe my presence will continue to move Republicans farther and farther away from winning the Presidency. I am stepping aside and hoping you will forgive me for letting you down, I did my best, but in this arena, my best isn't enough, and I don't have any more to give at this time, this is something I have to let go of because it is far beyond what I even imagined it would be, I will leave this to the true mavericks of politics, maybe Lieberman, Romney. Thank you and I ask for you to respect my privacy, I will not give interviews or make further public comments." This is heartfelt and honest. She goes home and enjoys her wonderful family and stays out of the media for a long time (let the country heal). Then the Republicans may have a chance at regaining last minute footage on the road to the White House.

John McCain can't seem to answer a question without obfuscating or waving the flag or stating inanities(ie. the veterans know I'll take care of them) and Sarah Palin really is just a heartbeat away from the presidency. Bring back Spiro Agnew(not really).

letters.salon.com/.../view

"Consider this scenario: Palin was never intended to be the real Vice-Presidential candidate. She was picked to bolster a Christian conservative block that was not going to support McCain. McCain's real choice is either Romney or Lieberman. I doubt that Palin is aware of this but she will be withdrawing from the ticket soon, because of the "intense liberal media slandering" of her personally. This will enrage the Christian conservative base and bring them out in mass in November. Romney will waltz in to save the day and give the rest of the Republican and independents the VP candidate they wanted along."

Thomas was a Democrat, wasn't he?
