If even 64% of Dems had voted in favor, the bill would have passed.

(I scrapped my calculator for good old Excel.)

You'll see that 133 out of 198 voting Republicans (67%) voted against the bill. However, you'll also see that 95 out of 235 (40%) of Dems voted against it. It is not surprising that a larger percentage of Republicans voted against it, as it is well accepted that the bill goes against what most would consider part of the basic philosophy of the Republican party. What *is* interesting is that a relatively large percentage of Democrats voted against the bill as well. And that, I imagine, is why you are hearing so much about how the bill failed due to Democratic opposition.

If even 60% of Dems had voted in favor, the bill would have passed.

(Note that I am just calculating the percentages off the cuff, and I may be off if my calculator skills aren’t up to par. :))
