For all the pro-cutters: Oh come on, it's not your decision to cut it off. I couldn't care less if you're the parents or not. You're cutting off a piece of your child's body, without their consent. Would you cut off one of their fingers? Their toes? Clip part of their ear off? I think not. Leave their penis alone.

You are doing your baby a TREMENDOUS disservice if you don't cut it. There is no doubt that girls prefer it cut. Also, he conveniently understates the tremendous medical benefits of cutting, and completely ignores hygiene considerations. CUT!

boys are born w/ foreskin for a reason. it's there to server a purpose. i say leave it. we didn't circumcise our son and have had no problems with it. who cares what it "looks" like.

i hear its healthy to cut the foreskin. i am expecting a baby boy and i will let the daddy make the decision to go ahead with it or not to. the dad isn't circumcised and i doubt if he wants our boy to be cut. i personally wouldn't want my little man to go through the pain...

When I was pregnant with my oldest son, hubby and I assumed we would have him circumcised. After he was born, we just couldn't put him through it. He's now in his twenties and says he's glad we didn't. He says he wasn't the butt of shower room jokes and hasn't had any health issues because of it. We didn't circ his brother either. It is how men are meant to be.

I love this article. Usually it is a cultural issue. I know that most Hispanic males are not circumcised. My husband and I are Polish and we are expecting baby boy. We plan to leave it the same as his fathers' (meaning "natural"). I just think it makes sense for son and father to look the same in that area. I do not worry about school showers. I hope he will be assertive enough to respond to that in an effective way.

As a pregnant woman with no strong opinion on it, I'm letting my husband choose for our son. He's strongly pro-circumcision, which is making my parents hysterical. Oh well, he's not their son.

I have 2 sons with different fathers, I opted to let the father's make that decision, and each opted to make the same decision their parents made for them; so I have one son with and one son without the snip. In the future I would recommend letting them make the choice when they're old enough, after all it is their equipment. I like the "natural" penis better myself.

UGH! As usual Babble provides all bluster and opinion and no actual research of any kind. It's a big decision, but don't let others bully you.

My view - It's not necessary and as a Jew, I'm not sure why non-Jews do it. But, don’t listen to extreme elements of anti-circumcision groups. Think about it calmly and rationally. Choosing circumcision is not barbaric. It’s not akin to female genital mutilation. If your husband is circumsized, don't allow others to bully you into thinking it will destroy your little boy's future sex life - has it destroyed the sex lives of your husband? I'm guessing if you have a son in the oven, your sex life is probably not that bad. The idea that circumcision damages the male sex life is an imaginative assumption.

Know your stats. It’s becoming far less common that it was in the last generation to come of age. So little Liam, Aiden or Oliver will likely not be the only boy in the locker room with a foreskin. (Even if he plays third base for the Schwartzman Deli Bobcats, he still might not be the only one)

I’m not sure you can do this if you aren’t Jewish... but if I wasn’t and wanted one for my son, I would choose a Jewish style circumcision. And I was shocked when I saw what some hospitals do. Drugs and apparati. Very scary. I’ve been to many a bris (a Jewish circumcision ceremony) and it’s not that bad. Yes, the boy cries. The boy is usually back to sleep by the time the smoked salmon is gone. I’ve never heard of a single problem - though I’m sure others could name one. In my grapevine, it has never come up. Thousands of years of experience have to count for something, right?
