Some good friends of mine just got married after 12 years of dating - they've been dating since they were 17. It's not a teen marriage - but it is a teen relationship that's made it quite a long time!

They are not married and they will never marry. If they wanted to marry they would have done it either BEFORE she got pregnant again or as soon as they found out like her mother did when seh got pregnant with Track (born 7 months after the wedding). Premarital sex is a famiy tradition with Republicans.

I don't think Bristol and her fella's relationship will break down because they are both teenagers. I think it will probably break down because it's a shotgun wedding, taking place under enormous pressure from their nation's political leaders in front of the entire country. And he said he doesn't want kids.

Could they make it? Anything's possible. But the odds are stacked against them, and it's not just (or even mostly) because they're both young.

I've said this in Salon comment threads before, but my husband's parents married when he was 24 and she was 17 and they had six children together and a marriage that lasted fifty-five years, ending with her death. I'm not saying that I'd be thrilled if I heard my 17 year old daughter was getting married, but I do get annoyed for my in-laws' sake when I hear young marriages being described as though they can't POSSIBLY work out well. Sometimes they do.
