Obviously these people want to have a child to call their own. How about meeting them half way? Find stable foster parents for the new born child (Savannah), who are willing to bring the child to the biological parents home once or twice a week under supervised visitation as long as the parents show a loving and continued desire to be a parent and are responsible when Savannah is in their care... and in return, Ms. Gamble agrees to be sterilized.

Perhaps that would be something that would make everyone happy and healthy.

You have the 'right' to have a baby. However, you do not have the 'right' to government sponsored free 'extra help'.

If mom can't handle it, give baby up for adoption. I have heard of severely disabled people caring for children just fine. If she's one of them, great. But she isn't - and a child's right to a safe home is greater than one's 'right' to raise their own child.

I'm not sure that either parents understand birth control. I believe older children were removed from custody after it had been demonstrated that the parents were unable to parent.

And, "unable to parent" is different than merely "irresponsible". These are two people who continue to demonstrate an absence of basic life skills. It's not that they are jerks mistreating their children, it is that they are mentally unable to provide care for their children. Learning how appears to be genetically impossible.

I have to agree with both of the comments here. This couple just keeps having children, which seems so very irresponsible. What did they think was going to change this time? The children are not experiments to be left with this couple to "see what happens." By the time it becomes clear that they are not taking care of their child, much damage could already be done.

I'm relived to see the Canadian government has done the right thing, again. I don't give a shit about this woman's "right" to have children; the people I care about are the helpless children and the sad lives they would live in allowed to stay with this couple. Barabara's psych reports are really, really scary and I agree with coolteamblt: if she wants to be a mother, she should fight for one of the children that are currently placed elsewhere. Instead, she just gave up and got knocked up again, because that's "easier."

I'm sorry, but I remember reading those articles. If this woman wants to be a mother, instead of purposely getting pregnant, why not work at getting back the children she already has? It might help to get back on track financially, show up to visitations clean and awake, and do whatever the government asks of them to get the other kids back. It comes across as incredibly stupid on both of their parts to keep having babies, then acting surprized when the government does the same thing every time. If they stopped being such idiots about the whole child-rearing thing, they might be able to get their other kids back, and be able to have more if they choose, and keep them!
