During the first couple weeks of postpartum depression; cracked, bleeding nipples; and a baby who wanted to nurse literally all the time, my MIL kept saying how much easier it was for me to nurse than mix up a bottle. Really? Then how come YOU didn't breastfeed? I'm sorry but I never saw a silicone nipple bleed.

Yes, I do have some unresolved MIL issues... thanks for asking.

dearest Walker...OMG- how much therapy did it require for you to get that image out of your head? WOW. i just got real tired after 18 months of the DH asking when he could have them (my breasts, silly) back! and yes, 'is he still nursing?', 'does he bite?', etc., etc. that said, i loved nursing SO much that my son has been weaned for 1 1/2 yrs. and i still tear up when i see a woman nursing. sigh...

After going back to work part-time I had a perverted coworker that asked: "So do you ever get turned on while the baby is sucking?" I just walked away.

The other is "Doesn't she have teeth by now? Your nipples must be scabby nips of steel!"

Never, ever, use the words "scabby", "nipples" or "steel" in the same sentence. Especially when talking to a nursing mother. I mean... really people.

"You're still nursing?" Jesus, the kid was only 6 mos. old. It's not like I was feeding a 6 yr old. My other favorite is, "Can you please do that in the bathroom?" Yeah, you go eat your lunch on the crapper and let me know how it goes.

After my first experience with the pump, I went out into our backyard where my husband was and said, "moo". He replied, "don't worry honey, you just need to exercise more....". After my incredulous stare and dead silence he figured out MILK cow, not big fat cow!

My father got drunk at our family christmas party last year and proceeded to put his face down next to my daughter's (while she was nursing) and started mimicking the suckling motion with his mouth. For that reason, we have ended the party tradition. I'm going to my inlaws this year!
