I'm so flipping jealous. I'm hoping I have my son here in the next few weeks so I use up my week of vacation, get my disability pay, and use my vacation, which starts over at the beginning of the year, to extend out my leave an extra week to make seven whopping weeks off. I want to be Canadian sometimes!

And don't forget--the disability thing only comes into play if your company has a STD policy. If not, it's U&C for the company--which could be no time at all unless you have vacation time accrued for yourself.

I'm glad you mentioned the disability payments thing. That always bothered me. I understand the reasoning but it just sounds obnoxious.

*sighs* I wish I could have taken that kind of leave and still kept my job! I took WAY more than the average woman to begin with, 13 weeks total. I was so lucky they let me have 12 unpaid weeks off, and I took my only week of paid vacation. Yes, I just said "I was lucky to get 12 unpaid weeks off." Never thought I'd say that but I know how many other women get 6, and they work from home the entire time.

Not to brag, but it's actually 35 weeks of parental leave and 16 weeks of maternity leave, allowing for nearly a year in total. As a mom in the middle of my leave, I'm happy to have it!
