Our son enjoyed each one and we truly appreciated the invitations.
I'm glad we did it.

I tried to skip the whole first birthday chaos, but finally gave in to my husband's family. They are room rental, get a clown, have a caterer, invite 100 people birthday party folks. Not me. She's not going to have another one until she is 4 or 5. I just don't see the sense in spending the money so that a bunch of people she does not really know can come and give her gifts she does not need. It's not going to happen.

Of interest - after celebrations with go karts, putt-putt, bowling, etc - when my son approached 10, he announced that he really didn't want a big party this year, instead opted for the cash "payout" and one good buddy for a hamburger/ice cream outing with sleepover. Completely on his terms, and yes I was beyond relieved.

Did I mention that my kids birthdays are one week apart?

Until then, it's just family at home, cupcakes at daycare, and a special outing. Who needs the extra stress and expense these days?

It's one thing if you love entertaining, and want an excuse to throw a party, otherwise, it ain't necessary. Child will have years of more extensive parties ahead of them. Trust me.
