Couldn't agree with you more! Even with my young young babies I often feel all this pressure about what they're up to and will it be nursery school or music classes or college applications next! I often feel this when talking to other parents. Do you think parents intentionally or unintentionally have a status competition thang going on... this time not with how many cars in the driveway but how advanced their kid is or how great the school they get into is? Your point really brings back the focus on just letting kids be free, creative and happy... and i guess we all participate in this "helicopter" phenomenom to a degree... for me I guess I'm unsure which is stronger... nature or nurture so I'll just err on the safe side :) but u're post helps me regain prospective and helps me not feel like i fall short because some days we just loaf around the house and draw in the bathtub and laugh! thanks.
