Just in time for cold and flu season, FDA safety officials are urging the agency to consider a ban on over-the-counter cough and cold medicines for all infants and children under 6 due to safety concerns. All gone. In a fit of responsible consumerism last month , I threw out the dregs of our cough and cold medicines, left over from intense use last winter

I'm hoarding it, people. If you want to hear more, check out my Wednesday post at Crabmommy@Cookie magazine online. I'm late to the game in discussing this pesky matter, but I've been laid up with a cold. And thankfully, Nyquil has helped ease my pain. At least this year. Probably by next year they'll be taking adult cough and cold meds off the shelves too. Because as we all know, none of it *really* works...still, I say if it doesn't do harm (and that's right, the FDA has not proven any harm w/ the infant stuff beyond RARE deaths associated with OVERDOSING), then I'm holding onto whatever elixirs I got!

Usually they leave my children listless and drowsy, and antihistamines never seem to dry up my little booger-heads. I end up frustrated at having forked over yet more medicine money at the neighborhood CVS for nothing.

I say load 'em up with homeopathic children's cold remedies (Hyland's C-Plus, etc.)... but have those been proven "safe" by the FDA? I'm not completely sure.
