And even though I love to write out a nice, long, comprehensive grocery list, the contents rarely take into account specific recipes. I'm just too poor to wing it. When we were both in office jobs making lots of money and with no kids, we used to spend $150 on groceries every week. Now, with two kids, I spend about $100 and that can often last two weeks. And we eat nice and have snacks and treats, too. If we are particularly tight on our budget, I can even do a $60 grocery.

It's all in the miracle of meal planning.

I used to just buy a bunch of fruit and veggies and half of it would go bad. Now I know what I will do with it all before I choose it and I rarely through any of it out. I also used to just buy things that appealed to me and found most meals seemed to be missing items because I didn't properly plan. Let's make the rice and beans we were planning! Oops, forgot to buy more rice. Mmmmmmm, I can't wait to make 7 layer dip! Except 3 layers never got bought!

It just doesn't happen anymore.

She made an Exel spreadsheet of all products used in their house. She prints out the spreadsheet and checks off the items she needs to purchase. I have followed suit and even have mine catagorized by grocery store (Whole Foods /Trader Joes/ Safeway/ Elephant Pharm). You can leave lines open for rare items such as new recipe ingredients and just write them in.....

And doesn't it feel good to throw together some leftover ingredients from the fridge with a couple of things from the pantry, realize it rocks, plunk it down next to a fruit salad on the table, and feel like Supermama?

In spite of my inability to plan, I have found some WONDERFUL recipes on CityMama's site. I'm making my way through her Mexican category. Try her chicken enchiladas or chicken tortilla soup. Soon. They're awesome.

Looking forward to getting inspiration from the rest of the bloggers on your list!
