It's taught me quite a bit of humility.

Since I raised both of my kids just assuming they would eat "normal" food, they've enjoyed things like fish, shrimp, zucchini, asparagus, SUN DRIED TOMATOES, goat cheese, capers and all kinds of other things since they were tiny.

My son has literally never eaten at MacDonald's (he's 12) and has never eaten red meat. Oh sure, he enjoys chicken fingers and fries from time to time when we're out, but his favorite meal since about age 5 is breaded catfish, asparagus and cous cous.

That's not to say that some kids aren't picky eaters. But I think the assumption about what kids WON'T eat can definitely affect what they WILL eat.
