Yes, it can happen - and that's part of the truth - that a man can be born with a vagina and uterus (it has to do with the sexual differentation in the seventh week of pregnancy). I am entirely disappointed by the hatred expressed by many of these comments.

A loving couple having a child in a nontradtional way is the "most disgusting thing you have ever read"? When there is brutal war in the Sudan, hundreds of thousands dying in the Middle East? And THIS news item is what you all find so outrageous?

You are worried about the harsh words the baby will the faced with, but they will be hearing them from people like YOU, the hateful folks writing these posts. Protect the child by not expressing such hate.

There are more important issues in the world than policing loving families.

Since God has been brought up several times I would like to remind all of you, as a very devout Christian, that it is NOT our place to judge! Fortunately that has been left up to God.

Who cares what this couple does? Who cares if Thomas is referred to as a man or woman? Yes they chose to make it public, but we can chose to ignore it. I will agree that no, it is not a miracle that this baby is being born in what had originally been a female body. And I don't necessarily agree with the life they have chosen to lead, but again, it's not my place to judge them.

I will say, regardless of what their sexual orientation may be, or has been in the past, they seem like to extremely loving people. That little girl is going to be so very loved. She is going to look at other little kids that are from abusive homes and be so grateful for the parents that tell her they love her every day.

Before you cast a stone.... remember you don't lead a life without sin either.

Just don't get this at all, Was Thomas born 100% women? Then by the miracle of modern technology, decide to change to a man? If that is the case then there is nothing amazing about this whole thing, other than a woman having a baby. Now, if Thomas was born with man parts down below and the rest women parts, this whole process is just bizarre. I guess my personal opinion about the whole process would be to ask, why would you go public with this? The majority of people would not want the attention that this is going to get. But I guess where there is a book involved, and this alone would be enough to generate a lot of publicity. As far as ethics and morality go I would be against this for the sake of the unborn girl. There are reasons that adoption and child rearing should be done in a normal manner. O-well nothing we can do about it now!

To those who are saying "This is ungodly.." GET OVER IT.

This pregnancy has already been done with, now they're just waiting for the birth.

I am happy that they are able to have a baby together.

Adoption is in my list [[since I can not have children]] but if they don't have to [[or don't want to]] go that route then so be it.

Now on the other hand I don't truely see him as a HIM at all. He was born a girl and in return has the right to carry a child. Whether she wanted to be seen as a man or not.

I feel it is the choice of the person. He is lucky to be able to bring a miracle in this world.

And this child will be loved and unique. And will have a loving mother and father. Along with a new meaning to "Daddy's Little Girl." As a woman, I only wonder now, if he understand what a woman goes through, that other men can't comprehend and never will.

Who are you to say it's wrong or disgusting?

For all of you that are against this you are afraid of change and probably a little jelous because you don't have this option.

I believe there is a reason for everything in life, and Beattie's situation proves it.

SHE is not a man. The state might recognize HER as a man, but GOD does not and society should not! I am happy that SHE is having a baby. Good for HER! Simple biology states, a man cannot have a NATURAL baby.

And I am trying to figure out why Dawn brought Sept. 11th into this whole issue. I fail to see anything remotely close to being related. So thank you Dawn for your input, we are all alot more ignorant for reading it.

This boils down to a woman...who would like to be a man, but is not a man, giving birth to a child. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS SO FREAKING SPECTACULAR ABOUT THAT? The miracle of birth...yes! The fact that she is doing it...no! So yet again, what is all the fuss!
