The second most ridiculous thing is the current thread on mothering.com where a group of women are sharing their frustrations about average Americans not being able to pronounce their kids' uncommon (but oh-so-common in Wales, or Africa, or some other place) names. We named our son after his grandfathers--it took us all of 5 minutes to settle on it, and the biggest sticking point was which grandfather got the first name. We are very happy with his common-in-America name; I think it gives him the opportunity to be whoever he wants. Going forth into the great big world with a name like &amp;quot;Sequoia&amp;quot; or &amp;quot;Sunshine&amp;quot; points a kid in a direction that maybe s/he'd rather not take. &lt;/p&gt;
