Hollywood sexulizes breasts and to show someone using it for its actual purpose goes against it being something sexual.

I did love Sesame Street. We are also expecting #2 and my daughter should have no problems since she is still nursing herself. She's 25 months, nurses 1-2 times a day. I am early in the pregnancy so I still have milk, but figure she will wean when the milk dries up.

There are a couple great books by Dr Sears called "a baby on the way" and "what baby needs" that show a mother nursing a newborn and explains it in limited detail but enough for a young child. "My New Baby" i think is the title, is another book that shows a mother nursing -- it does not have any words so you can talk to the pictures or let your toddler make up her own story. Others like "Mama Mama" have sublte messages through a nursing leopard and "We Like to Nurse" is another great one about all kinds of animals and how each one nurses (ie horses nurse standing up, etc.).

We are just going to make it a natural thing, after all, it's the most natural way to feed a baby. I'll also let my daughter be involved -- she can snuggle next to us, or help stroke the baby's feet to keep him awake, bring a blanket or burp cloth -- there are many things that could help your child feel involved and make nursing as natural for her as it is for the baby.

Good luck and congrats!

I know back in the 70s, you could only show the top part of a breast, up to the nipple - and no nipple. If that's still true, it would explain why no breastfeeding?

'Course, I believe more cynical explanations, myself, but it's a thought.

Why don't you see this on TV anymore? You would think that with all of the babies on TV, there would be more breastfeeding. I think the only television show where I have ever seen breastfeeding is an episode of King of the Hill.
