Here's Hugo and my mom almost exactly one year ago. I love this pic.

Now, here she is in this sneaky short vid I tookof them together this weekend.

Here, you see nothing but peace reigning. No crazy toddler moments trying to grab the dog's lips, no my mother getting annoyed with his repetitive baby games and correcting him with machine gun-like firings of "Nonononononono. Hugo? Nonononononono." I can't really go into the details of this past weekend without being really boring or unfair to her, but more than once or thrice I wondered, "Did she really have babies?" As I was one of the three, I seem to remember it, but perhaps the memory was implanted? (Note to self: check for chip up my ass.) I mean, she was great with us as kids, if not way too lax on the dsipline. But I can't picture her with toddlers. For her part, she admits she has little to no memory of the baby years. She claims this is necessary for the human race to continue. I guess she loved it.

Me, I'm going to remember the beautiful pics and the cute vids as lovingly displayed above.

Night Internet, I wish you babies that are perfectly behaved and Grandmother's who are like Mary Poppins.

To the Baby Go the Spoils

Grandma Layton indulges Hugo? Um, ya, a little. While I bristle when my mother buys me stuff no matter how small, I love it when she brings him life's unnecessities -- such as the ultra jazzy tot-sized Adirondak chair you see in this video.

Major props to Uncle Michael for showing the babe how to properly dock his rump to get in and out of his chair. Empowered by this new skill, it's all he wanted to do. As you can see, Hugo was up and down more than a whore's drawers.

OK Internet, I'll be back this weekend with more earth-shattering delights.

Romance & Radiators -- Hot Stuff!

See that saucy cover? Thing is, my mom has a new book coming out 5.27.08. For those of you that don't know, which is most of you, my mother is an award-winning author who has published over 30 historical novels. As her new book is coming out roundabout Mother's Day, I've decided to pull out all the stops and be relentlesly gushy and promotional for her.

Why? #1 She writes a great book. #2 She is totally ridiculously, stupidly shy about being self-promotional. #3 I''ve written to "Regis & Kelly's Mom's Dream Come True Contest" for YEARS trying to get them interested in her only-spoken-to-me dream: having Kelly feature one of her novels as a great beach read. See my perky blog from 2005 about entering this contest -- somewhat hilariously, you can tell I was convinced we would win. It would cost them nothing! She so deserves it! But alas, no. Didn't happen.

So fine! As Babble is about kids and writing all that, I feel this is the perfect place to have you get to know her. She's my inspiration -- if she could have three kids and a career then impossible is nothing. OK, she did have a husband who was a doctor, but add in the fact that women of her generation didn't have careers and we're even steven. Almost, maybe?

Lookie dat -- no surgery or botox or nothing, people! OK , stay tuned for more on her TK this month including awesome photos of her blatently subjecting me to secondhand smoke! Who misses the 70's? I do!

Speaking of HOT STUFF... Along with my job and all, I'm trying to learn how to make slammin' podcasts ( like this recent one I appear in but didn't make or write) and original vids. So I've taken on trying to make a book trailer for a friend. It's for an erotic anthology and I'm attempting to do one straight 'n sexy and one funny. We shall see!

OK so speaking of HOT -- here's a motionbox video of Hugo going wild with a radiator and a copy of the Financial Times* Arts section. If that's wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Grandma Can Can

My mom can finish yet another novel -- which she did this week (Her 37th book? Something like that. Honestly, I can't update her website as fast as she can write them Luckily she blogs with her author friends here too). And she can teach our Hugo to dance. Can you dig it? Yes you can can, by the magic of the little video, below. I would write more, but as I was up today pre-roosters making multigrain mixed berry muffins for my co-workers -- stick a fork in me, I'm done. And I'm thrilled to throw to Grandma.

PS Calling her "Grandma" is still odd. Those of you with kids: does it ever feel not odd to call your parents Grandma/pa? She ain't young, but she ain't Grandma-like. Still, I can't do "Glam-ma" as that title is already taken in our family, by her sister in LA. I digress! I need sleep! Oi! Nighty night and big kisses internets!
