    Nickname

Someone posted an anonymous message on the Free For All board, since removed, regarding my referring to my sons as The Lads, basically saying it was annoying.  For those who care, I thought I'd clarify -- that's actually a family nickname for Miles and Porter -- we call them that, their grandparents call them that, most of our friends call them that.  It's basically because we didn't want to call them "the twins," as that seems to rob them of some of their uniqueness, and "the boys" sounded too macho for our tastes.  Farrar and I are both somewhat sheepish Anglophiles, so there's a bit of self-mockery involved.  But I don't call them that just to be pretentious.

I like that you call the boys "Lads". It's something we don't hear often enough. Nicknames are great. We call our little guy, Mr. Moo, as well as a host of other names but we haven't picked one that has stuck.  I don't think it's annoying at all! I think it's sweet and a nice way to refer to your little boys.

I know it's hard NOT to let it bother you, but to be honest, it was one person. No one else jumped on that band wagon. I think you have a lot of support by the community here.

I like it too.  If whoever posted that was so upset by it, he or she could post with a NAME, not anonymously.  Coward.  I think calling them The Lads is cute cute cute!  It's better than "those soul-sucking fiends" or "The Reasons Why We Can't Go To Oktoberfest AGAIN This Year."

I dislike anonymous posting anyway.  If you have something to say, you should own it.

Here in the UK, we say lads all the time - so I didn't think anything of it.  Basically - who cares what you call your children.. to each their own!

    Peter,

They're your kids you should call them whatever you like. Personally, I think it is cute. Obviously the person who found it annoying has WAY too much time his/her hands.

You are allowed to call them what ever you want. They are your children. whoever wrote that has no business saying anything about it.

I nicknamed my kids whatever they respond to. so far Homer, Bubba, and Chickadee are the ones they answer to the most.

    Re: Nickname

Yeah, don't second guess your choice of a nickname cause some anonymous person finds it annoying. I find it annoying that people judge such frivolous things as a parents choice of a nickname. If that person finds it annoying who cares. My father called me all sorts of goofy names that later in life I find real endearing and miss. Be yourself and disregard whatever some online naysayer has to say.

Hi in Australia we use the words lad, pal and mate no big deal and they give everyone a nickname when they get older from friends, workmates etc so calling your own children lads is OK
