feedback for "Five-Minute Time Out: The Medicated Child"
-
This interview hits home for me - my husband is bipolar and I suffer from depression, and I wonder what the effects will be on our son in the future. I find myself watching him, wondering "Is that normal? Is that mania?" and constantly judging, questioning, worrying... I can't imagine how awful it must be for parents who have kids showing serious bipolar behavior, because it's scary enough in adults, who can somewhat articulate what they are feeling, and at least medication has been tested for far longer and more comprehensively on adults. It's wonderful, though, to know that studies are being done, results published, doctors testing and figuring things out and trying hard to find the best medications for children. The therapy question, though, is huge - I think insurance companies need to realize how important therapy is, both for children and adults, and need to take steps to make it more readily available to their insurees.
