feedback for "Editor's Note 5: Stepmom"

It's hard to find good tv/movie stepmom role models, though I recently wrote at Literary Mama about The Sound of Music's Maria as one of the better ones.

I love being a step-mom. I have a 13 year old step-daughter and an 8 year old step-son. My husband and I also have a 3 year old son together. I have been in the older kids lives for over 7 years. For my step-son, I'm "Mama" when he's talking to me, and "Mimi" when he's talking to his bio-mom. To my step-daughter I'm "Mimi". I'm also the one she confides in without fear of getting in trouble - I'm her sounding board and her secret-keeper. "Don't tell Daddy..." I don't either, unless it's a "mandatory reporter" issue (abuse, legal, etc) My husband trusts me to help guide her into a strong and happy teenager. My step-son plays with "his" baby brother all weekend when they are visiting. The baby worships both of them.
We had growing pains, and there are still bumps in the road now and then, but I've learned in the last 3 years that that's a parenting thing. "Step-" has nothing to do with it!
