feedback for "Gen-X Parents "R" Us"
-
Gen-X was always a poorly named, short lived phenomenon but then again the strongest and most consistent usage of it is by Marketers. I was demographically part of it but never subscribed to it, but then again maybe that is the heart of that generational grouping. I agree with most of Susan's thoughts but it brings up another (related) more pressing concern which is the buying power of our children (not just teens, tweens and adolescents, but younger as well). I have been exposed to the inside scoop after years of working in the advertising business and try my best to steer my young ones clear of the "hype" but realize it is ultimately a losing battle. Thank heavens for TIVO, that's all I can say.

Also part of our nostalgia for cartoons and toys from our childhood could be that they seem more innocent than some more current toys. Strawberry Shortcake seems child-like and playful, when compared to the slutty outfits and big sexy lips of Bratz dolls. Course in my childhood they wanted me to play with innocent and simple raggedy ann or holly hobbie instead of strawberry shortcake, which I'm sure seemed so commercial.
