feedback for "Romancing the Tunic"

  1. this is so True! every time i try on one of those tunic dresses i think i look pregnant! what's up with fashion? they all want to be skinnyskinny, right? so why are they showing clothes that make them look pregnant!? haha. thanks for this.

  2. definitely accurate! in fact, i call the phenomenon of non-pregnant women wearing flowy, oversized tops & dresses "Maternity Chic". i'm nearly 9 mos pregnant and have had better luck finding comfy maternity clothes in regular women's stores. seriously...tight, spandexy tops have zero appeal when you're pregnant & overheating in June.

  3. I have been on and off pregnant for the last four years with my two daughters. Now that I'm getting back to almost pre-pregnancy size, I'm out there looking for cute clothes. Not so! Every thing I try on has an empire line, or no line at all. Large busted as I am since puberty, the empire line instantly makes me look like I'm in my 2nd trimester, and the a-line smocks look like a tent pitched out over my ample chest. I have resorted to wearing Banana Republic tank tops with everything, just so I can show off my waist!

  4. I can't help but think that the movie-star pregnancy craze has something to do with this latest fashion trend. Being pregnant is all the rage, I guess (lucky for me)!

  5. It seems to be a throwback fashion to the early '90's when babydoll dresses were all the rage--as they were empire-waisted, and I have 36D boobs, I couldn't wear them then, and I can't wear them now. The only article of clothing I own that has an empire waist is an Empire-era-designed gown and coat (I portray Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley for one of my classes). I don't look pregnant in it because the thing goes straight to the floor--hiding my bedonkadonk quite nicely. No such luck in the trendy new tops and "skinny" jeans--criminey!   The only women who don't look preggo in these new tops are skinny (size 4 and under) teenage girls--which again only illustrates the fact that "fashion" is not for the average 5'6" 150 lb. frame.

  6. What's the big deal, really? You're NOT pregnant, what does it matter if people think you are because of the shirt you're wearing? Do other people's opinions matter so much? Is it that awful for someone to think you are pregnant? If you don't like it or it doesn't fit properly,  then don't buy it. There are always other items available out there. Tunics and empire waists are indeed available almost everywhere, but so are the  To think, I was just complaining that they don't make MATERNITY clothes in styles that look like my normal style, so this "new trend" kinda makes me happy.

  8. Firstly, I have yet to see anyone over 100lbs who looks good in an empire waist. Oh, other than my 4 year old. Why, why, why would you think this to be an attractive look? At my large, 5 month pregnant size (it's my 3rd, I'm large, alright), I'm revelling in tank tops and skinny camisoles because for one of the few times of my life, I have nothing to hide. Those girls in the empire waists look like they're concealing something - pregnancy, or just that spare tire. Sorry ladies, it's not girly, or cute!

  9. As a male I can say i heartily concur wiht baciamille above ... the bunching and gathering tunicky look is remniscent of bathing suits with skirts around the bottom -- looks like you are trying to hide something. The problem with the "red light / green light" game of following fashion trends -- everyone carry purses with long straps ! now everyone carry purses with short straps! -- is that the latest trend is not always flattering the latest trend follower. It's a great arrangement for the fashion industry that wants to convince you to replace your closet every 6 months; it's not necessarily in the interests of people who want to actually look good.

  10. This article is great.  I wrote a similar story last year, and I just looked it up, it was from last July!  This trend's been around a little while, seems to be accelerating (balloning?) and I certainly got through my pregnancy on XXLs from the Misses department.  http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A34048

  11. I reckon those of us who've had a baby in the last year come off the worst with this trend. Here I am trying to get rid of the baby belly and everything accentuates it! I had someone ask me if I was knocked up again so soon! Bastard.

  12. I've just been maternity shopping for the first time (still in my first trimester w/ twins). It does suck. I hate what my mom and I call the bump shirts. I bought two fairly roomy looking t-shirts. They hug the bump (granted currently a mini-bump), have cap sleeves and deep u-necks. They didn't look like this on the hanger. I have no desire to turn into a 20 year old hottie now that I'm pregnant. I want to be comfortable, and neatly dressed. Perhaps I need to check out the plus size women's clothing instead.
