feedback for "Bad Parent 6: Stage Mother"

  1. This is an hilarious article and I love the writing!! In a way we are all stage mothers. And there are lessons here for everyone.

  2. When my daughter was born, one of the nurses (kind of crabby, not very comforting) told my husband that she'd been working in that hospital for 20 years and she'd never seen a baby as "TV pretty" as our Katy.   We looked into modeling, but we live in the Midwest and had moved out of Chicago because we didn't want to live in the city. If we were serious about getting her work, we'd have to move back. I did some research and read some "stagemom blogs" and decided that it wasn't for us. After reading your article, I'm really glad. I wouldn't have been able to deal with it--the competition, the snarkiness...just not my idea of fun times with my baby girl. I'm content with filling photo albums and bombarding our friends with emails.   Good luck to you.

  3. I've been approached a couple of times on Jillian's behalf, but we have decided not to have her do anything that she herself cannot consent to.  Plus, if I had to deal with snotty backstage moms, I'd probably throw a punch or two.

  5. So funny!

Once, I produced a story for a kids magazine and they needed a baby girl to sit and wear the cute flower hat I found.  None of the girls would wear the hat, so I brought in my son.  He had to wear girly overalls and a crocheted flower hat, but he did it, got paid and was on his way home in 20 minutes.

  6. i love april's writing and this article epitomizes my feelings on the entire baby modeling thing.  it's great that it works out for a lot of families but, there seem to be too many rules for the unpredictability of life and babies.

  7. Great article!  You have summed up the industry so well - highs and lows and a great illustration of the choices we have to make as parents for the welfare of our children.  Congrats on not being the die hard mother that chooses the job over her baby!!!
