Very interesting. It's great to see public television continue to connect in a powerful way with a massive audience ... i have to think Elmo is the single most successful personality on public broadcasting today. nice to see the curtain lifted.

You can't deny it: Sesame Street is infused in American culture, a piece of each of our childhoods and now a piece of our children's lives, and Elmo is iconic. I heard Kevin Clash on "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" on NPR once, and he was brilliant. He was answering questions in his voice and Elmo's simultaneously, as if they were two people over-talking one another, to the point that the host was like "Stop that! You're freaking me out!" He's incredibly talented, good-humored, and -- as depicted in this interview -- full of love. Thanks for this piece. Viva la Sesame!

For over a month all my two year old talked about was going to see Elmo.(Elmo's Green Thumb) He kept saying Ma, Ma I want to hold him, I want to hug him. So finally the day comes and here we go, to the show. Never thought it would be like taken him to a toy store, to tease him and, not buy him a toy. We had floor seats so the whole time during the show my son kept asking can I go up to the stage and see him. I kept telling him you have to wait till after the show. I did not think you guys would not consider the feeling of so many young hearts. Throughout the show Grover and Telly and a few others walked around the audience so I dont understand why Elmo couldnt of done the same. At least you guys could of done was have Elmo before or after the show sit in a chair and, have the kids line up to see Elmo. I have never seen my sons heart break before and never thought it would be at a Sesame Street Show; after all I thought you were all about the children. Apparently just the money.
