As someone with one healthy boy and a recent miscarriage at 12 weeks (with a different partner), this is certainly food for thought. Hopefully more research is done on this procedure - especially if it is this effective!

The friend sounds like she has her stuff together, but I wonder how it works against the minds and hearts of others who can't handle the news that they're actually

...I was trying to say that I wonder how others deal with the news that they're actually allergic to each other. I would guess that for some, particularly the superstitious - this would crank up a whole bunch of concerns about how things will work out for the baby for whom they go to such great lengths to make their own bodies hospitable. Nice essay.

Okay, I am trying very hard to not judge, because I know how desperate a person can feel while trying to conceive. It literally stays on your mind every day all day. But I also know how much IVF treatments cost, and with all they spent they could have adopted a handful of newborns who needed homes. Okay, fine, they wanted one naturally. But knowing all the issues and their age after they already had one naturally why on earth were they not looking into adopting a child who otherwise has no home since the cost is similar? I am judging the woman, but I am questioning why more doctors aren't discussing this option realistically with their patients.

In the last sentence I meant not judging. I just think there is something very wrong with the medical professionals who aren't offering information on the idea of adoption rather than illicit medical procedures in the back of a car. I am glad it worked for her, but I am questioning the sanity of it.

My wife and I did the same thing! We had six miscarriages before beginning the same LIT treatments in Nogales. After a year of treatments, she was able to carry our son full term. He is now 5 years old.
Our family thought we were crazy when the instructions were: "Go to the McDonalds near the border crossing. Sit under the green umbrella. Someone will meet you. Bring cash." The first time we were very anxious. On subsequent trips we could always spot the new couples there for the first time and tried to help them feel more secure. We met lots of great people and know of several couples who now have children. We were very fortunate to find Dr. Beer ( http://www.repro-med.net/ ) before he passed away. He helped us understand the complex immunological processes that were causing my wife's body to attack the fetus. Some of our doctors called it "cutting edge", one called it "vodo".
While the immunological conditions could be diagnosed with lab tests; the progress tracked as treatment progressed; and the results were a health child, it still doesn't qualify as proven science. It was enough for us at the time.
We spent nearly $70,000 over 20 months. (flights to Tucson, car rental, every 3 weeks for a year - aren't covered by medical insurance) The mexican doctor was the least expensive part!
It was worth all the sacrifices.
