feedback for "The 20 Worst Toy Makeovers"

I do find the new gloworm to be so sad. My husband got one for my daughter because it was the closest thing he could find. She digs it - but it actually has the capability to play crappy midi lullabies! We turned the switch off for that option. I think the new one is too small, I like that the old one was long and snuggly. Though some things remain the same - getting bonked with that plastic face still hurts.

Remember "little people" from Fisher Price? They used to be just little wooden tubes with a head and a finger hole in the bottom. Those were my favorite toys from the ages of 3 to 8 yrs old. Now, I won't even buy them for my daughter. They are plastic now with arms and legs that move! Also, I had the village and farm for mine. They now have shopping malls and beauty salons with spas! What is wrong with giving our kids some imagination? Btw, I had all of the toys you listed here when I was a kid. My daughter has some of the new versions, and I am puzzled as to why the Strawberry Shortcake dolls look so wierd. I had Lemon Meringue, and Blueberry Muffin as well as Strawbwerry Shortcake and mine didn't look like the new ones at all. I agree with your message here.
P.S. Bring back the original toys. They were more fun!

This is going to reveal my far-too-in-depth knowledge of plastic ponies, but oh, well.
The entry for My Little Ponies got jumbled somehow. The disturbing new toy you're describing is Struts (see photo), which I agree is a high-heeled abomination, but which is not associated with My Little Pony or with Hasbro. But for some reason, the picture you've got is not of a Struts, but of a new-generation My Little Pony. Maybe an editing mistake?
So I hope that's a relief to those of us with fond memories of My Little Ponies: they haven't started sporting barely-there clothes. The toy described is a different, unassociated plastic horse.
(Also, that Care Bear makeover is deeply depressing.)

Did you come up with the idea for this article yourself or was it foisted on you by Babble? I really hope it was the later, because if you put this much thought and effort into complaining about toys then you really need to get a life.
Who cares how different they are now?

Well, I care...seeing as I end up playing with all this stuff just as much as my son (he's our only, and I'm a big part of his day). My vote is for Candyland, which was bright and simple and cheery in the seventies, but now has these horrid computer-generated illustrations, including a "beautiful" princess that I don't remember from the original version. Why must "beauty" be such a focus at the tender age of four? The character in question is a friggin' ice cream treat, for Pete's sake!
Ahem. Sorry - I have no explanation for why this fires me up so.

Oh my gosh. I can't believe they've done that to the glow worm! My son was an (old-fashioned) glow worm for his first halloween, but apparantly that reference and the pictures will be irrelevent to him. :(

What was wrong with the old versions? I think WB, Disney, Fisher Price and all the others should go back to their earlier versions. Sometimes they try so hard to make things better they ruin them. What ever happened to those cartoons, too, i.e. Bugs Bunny, Scooby, Flintstones, Jetsons, Smurfts. I don't even want my child to watch some of the cartoons now a days.

Actually, I care too. I find the toys so incredibly, shockingly UGLY, and the girl-dolls to be so offensively dressed as little tramps, not to mention to Disney/TV marketing tie-ins with almost EVERYTHING available that I avoid buying any of it. I bought the old wooden Little People on Ebay, as well as the schoolhouse, Lincoln Logs: also from Ebay. I wish my mom had saved more of our toys, but then again, we were pretty hard on them. I also found a "classic" Candyland edition at a regular toy store. But for the most part, I simply will not buy this ugly plastic crap. Complain to the store, send an email to the company!! But don't give them your money!!

Great trip down memory lane (for the old versions at least). I've got to try finding an old Etch-a-Sketch for my son. Along with Lite Brites, they must be the best toys ever...

The new Little People are pretty pathetic. And the See 'n Say? How I long for ny daughter to have the experience of driving me crazy with the cow that REALLY goes moo.
So sad that everything is about curvy hips and long golden curls and animated TV shows. And no creativity. Why cook imaginary food when you can open a package of Haba Biofino cloth pasta instead?
I'm pretty new to the modern toy world, but it makes me very sad.

Oh my goodness, how depressing. :( The newer versions of everything are atrocious!! I could honestly cry over what they've done to the Gloworm.
