  2. wahm - Taking care of their kids is what women are doing by going to work to earn a living, and pay for food and shelter... Aren't you blessed that you do something that allows you to work at home, and split your attention to be able to take care of your own kids... or are they in front of the TV all day while you work? Whatever it is, being home does not make you a better mother. Get over yourself.

  3. I'm very interested in this discussion, as I struggle with whether to put my kids in a family-run daycare in our neighbourhood, or a non-profit daycare downtown. Both have positive elements: the family daycare scenario is more relaxed, laissez-faire, and cheaper. The group daycares are more structured and have a pedagogical bent to them. My daughter went to a family centre for a while and it had a total East Vancouver vibe to it. The owner would pack up the kids for lunch and play at the park if it was nice out, but would stay if it rained. She also had a mix of kids of different ages. My daughter loved the "older" girls (who were four).

Ultimately, I like the group daycare for my toddler. She loves "school" and her "teachers." The scheduled snack, play and nap times are good for her. She gets outside everyday. I can see a family-run centre good for younger babes and kids who are better with an unstructured day.
