Being Latina means … something different to a lot of people. For me, it is the language I speak, the food I cook, my family, and my outgoing personality.
The best advice I’ve ever received: Happiness is not something you get somewhere or from someone — it is something you discover in yourself. Until that happens, you will find yourself always searching for it.
My favorite word/phrase in Spanish: Lo que no mata, engorda. (What doesn’t kill you, will fatten you.) It’s meant to encourage you to just give something a taste. If it doesn’t kill you, the worst that can happen is that you will like it. A lot.
My most beloved Latin icon: Writer and poet Julia Alvarez.
What I love most about my culture: The food, the warmth, and the love for life.
My home away from home: When not in my newest home base of New Jersey or traveling, I am in my hometown of New York City. It’s where I go for work, inspiration, and connecting with friends.
My spirit animal: Bird.
The one piece of advice I’d give to a new parent: The parenting books are useless, you don’t need all the stuff people tell you you will need, and nothing matters more than what you want for your child.
My favorite Disney movie: Brave.
My hidden talent: Illustration.
The one word that best describes me: Strong.
