Being Latina means … being passionate, caring, and strong.
The best advice I’ve ever received: My parents have always lived by the golden rule, and they have passed the same advice to me: “One should treat others as they would like others to treat themselves.”
My favorite word in Spanish: Azúcar! (Sugar!) In Latin America, this word has a deeper meaning when said with the right tone and excitement. It is a symbol of joy and the spice of life, thanks to a famous singer, Celia Cruz, who would always use it as she sang her lively lyrics.
My most beloved Latin icon: The Mirabal Sisters. November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, was designated as such by the United Nations General Assembly in honor of the Mirabal Sisters – strong, passionate, and caring Latinas!
What I love most about my culture: How happy we truly are, even amidst tough circumstances. Happiness is in our genes!
My home away from home: My home away from home will always be the Dominican Republic, where I was born and raised. I go there every year to be with family and breathe the warm air of the Caribbean Sea.
My spirit animal: Horse.
The one piece of advice I’d give to a new parent: Be who you want your kids to be. From a very young age, they will try to imitate you. Your actions will be reflected in theirs.
My favorite Disney movie: The Little Mermaid.
The one word that best describes me: Love.
