Rodriguez, who worked under master pastry chef Sherry Yard in Los Angeles, reminds you how much more food is than just sustenance and validates all that time you spend in the kitchen pouring over what goes on your children’s plates. She writes: “I am completely and utterly obsessed with food because of its effect on the people who consume it, grow it, produce it, enjoy it, and live for it.
