Imagine if for just one hour cities around the world could unite in a way that helps our planet. Such an event does in fact exist and it’s just one week away! Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative in partnership with WWF. It began in one city in 2007 and by 2012 hundreds of millions of people in 152 countries across every continent in the world participate in what is now known as “the world’s largest campaign for the planet.”
This year hotels and resorts are challenging each other to participate.
Macau kicked things off by challenging establishments to join them in switching off the exterior facades and non-essential indoor lighting on the first Tuesday of every month. So far 13 hotels in Macau have excepted the hotel’s “I Will If You Will” challenge. Other hotels in Singapore and Cook Islands and New World Hotels in Dalian, Shanghai, Wuhan, Ho Chi Minh City and Manila will also be participating in Earth Hour.
Earth Hour 2013 is supported by the Mandarin Oriental, Hilton Hotels, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriot and Fairmont Hotels among others. Every business, individual and government office is invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 23, 2013 at 8:30 PM to show their support for environmentally sustainable action.
