A few days ago, nineteen members of the elite Granite Mountain Hotshots died fighting a fire in Yarnell Arizona. As a fire fighter’s wife, I’m heartbroken reading about these brave men, many just in their twenties, and thinking of the families they’ve left behind.
If you, like me, are wondering what you can do, here are a few ways to take action and help.
An account has been set up to directly benefit the families of the fallen fire fighters through Chase Bank. Contact any Chase Bank and ask for the United Phoenix Fire Fighters Association Account set up to benefit firefighters killed in the Yarnell fire. Find out exactly how to donate here.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation also supports fallen firefighters’ families. Find out more at their website.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will also be matching donations for the fallen fire fighters, made through their website, up to $100,000.
If you’re not able to give financially, you can also honor the fallen in other ways. Consider giving blood. You can find a list of Red Cross blood drives here.
