If you agree wholeheartedly with these words from the SAME (So All May Eat) Café in Denver, you might want to support – or maybe even create your own – community café.
A community café is a place where the customers set the price for their meal. Struggling folks can pay $.25, and those who are a bit more flush can put in more. It means everyone, regardless of their financial situation, can eat a delicious and healthy meal at a great local spot. For those who can’t pay even a dime, many of these cafés welcomes an hour of work for a meal. The SAME Café’s offerings, which change daily, include things like BBQ Bacon Blue Cheese Pizza and Sesame Apple Slaw.
There are over 30 cafes in the US, with another 30 in the process of being created. The One World Everybody Eats Foundation, which supports these community cafes, reports that the cafes serve over 1.3 million meals each year.
Many serve locally-sourced and organic food, striving to keep their carbon footprints small while fighting hunger.
