  • The Preppy Look 3 of 11

East Coast practically invented the American Preppy look. Every year when school comes around in the fall I become a little nostalgic for preppy pieces like blazers and cardigans.

  • The Little Black Dress 4 of 11

It's a staple piece in most wardrobes but I can't help thinking it gathers a little more dust here on the west coast. East coasters know how to dress up and go out!

East coast weather permits more layering of textures. I love that this woman is wearing silk, wool, suede, and jean all accompanied by a great woven leather bag.

It's just a staple look in the east that doesn't go over quite as well on the west coast. One of the looks I miss the most!

The next best thing to wearing all black back east is to wear all neutrals. I love how simple yet pulled together this look is.

  • Heavy Layering 8 of 11

New Yorkers have mastered bundling up in style. I love the coat on coat look accented with fur and a cap. There aren't too many places on the west coast you could get away with wearing that many layers.

East coast makeup seems to be very minimal with the highlight being a red lip. A classic look that I carried with me here to the west coast.

While turtlenecks can sometimes feel dated the east coast has a way of making them blend into their wardrobes, like the perfect classic layering piece.
