10 things that make Paris awesome

We’re back from our trip to Paris, and now that I’m over the jetlag, I’ve had some time to process it all.  I’ve mentioned before how much I love travel, and whenever I have the opportunity to take an international trip, I try to spend some time really thinking about what it is about the country I’ve visited that makes it special to me.

To be clear, this isn’t always an easy thing to do — going to a foreign country can sometimes be really challenging.  Being away from home naturally takes you out of your comfort zone:  customs may seem odd or even insulting, foods may appear unappetizing, language might be a challenge; heck, sometimes even the toilet facilities might be impossible to figure out!  Still, no matter where in the world I’ve been, and no matter how difficult the trip might be, I’ve never failed to come up with something I’m grateful for — a lesson learned, say, or a connection made.  The truth is we live in a really wonderfully diverse and beautiful world, and sometimes it takes sitting down and reflecting about it before we can see it.

In any event, as I said, I always end my trips thinking about what it was that made it awesome, and in doing so, I often make a list in my journal of my top 10 things I’m grateful for.  Admittedly, Paris makes it pretty easy to come up with a gratitude list; so, I figured given that we’re all about gratitude up in these parts, I thought I’d share my favourites about Paris with you.

So, without further ado, here are my top 10 things that made Paris awesome for me.
