As far as I am concerned, they cannot make enough kid’s movies. If I had the guts to open up a movie production studio, I would solely focus on awesome kid material. We parents need the rest and the joy of watching our kids fully entertained.
I was lucky enough to be invited to watch Planes, Disney’s new animated movie, as part of the Jamba Juice Healthy Living Council. This cousin of Cars film has a totally different theme, yet a similar moral code. As I sat there with my 3-D glasses, munching on my popcorn in my single seat, all I could think was how wrong it was for me to be there without my kids (but a plane ride for a movie is a bit much)! So as a last back-to-school outing, my kids are stoked to finally see the characters mommy has been talking about so much on the big screen.
Here are my 3 reasons to see Disney’s Planes.
- El Chupacabra. Plain and simple, he steals the show. I was trying to figure out who would be the Planes version of Mater (as that was my kids’ all time favorite character… well, mine too really… “Tractors is so dumb!” Classic!) Not only is this character funny, interesting, and lovable, he delivers some classic one liners that the kids will be quoting for weeks. And my son can’t seem to get enough of correcting my pronunciation… so I just call him El Chu “cause I kind of know him.”
- Planes makes you LOVE airplanes. I am a nervous flyer, which is shocking for people to learn since I log about 150,000 miles a year. But this movie literally made me think of my Delta plane as a people carrier with personality. Now I board my flights, wink at the face end of the plane, and give her a name. It helps. As I type, Lucille is taking me to NYC. It also makes travel more fun for kids. Whether it’s reservations for going to a new place, or the flying itself, this movie shows kids the joys and sights of the world. But beware, your kids may want Dusty Crophopper to personally pick them up for your next trip.
- Nice guys can finish ****. I won’t spoil the ending, but in true Disney fashion, this film delivers a great lesson. You just cannot remind your kids enough to take care of one another. Not even a competition is a competition when a friend is in need. I realize I am talking in code and that I am probably not giving really anything away that you don’t already know, but I love the fact that there were only a couple of planes even remotely concerned about what place they got in the around the world flight, and that the true reward was the journey.
So I hope you get a chance to see this fun film and share it with your family. Get Ready people, wheels up!
