The other day I sat down with my friend who has nannied for almost a decade. We were exchanging stories about what it was like to be a mom hiring a nanny, and what she felt it was like being on the other side. She told me a bit about how she has nannied for families from coast to coast, what it was like working for new moms, and the relationships that continue to grow even after she has stopped watching their kids. Have you ever wondered what your nanny has thought about you? I know I have. Here is what she had to say …
No, You’re Not Crazy
Apparently I’m not the only mother out there to ask her babysitter a million times, “You think I’m crazy, don’t you?”
Any good nanny can understand that you have a ton on your plate, that’s probably why you called us up in the first place. Even when you are rocking a milk-stained t-shirt and no bra, while also racing around the house trying to catch us up on the day, we never think, “Oh this one is definitely a nut.” It’s a lot to juggle, and we totally get it.
You’re Doing It Right
This is something I want all moms to know, especially new moms. Ultimately, you know what is best for your baby, even though your total lack of sleep and hormones may try to tell you otherwise, you’re doing it right. A good nanny is not there to judge your every move, but to support and encourage you. Just as you want the best for your baby, we want the best for him/her too. So don’t worry, we got your back.
You Make a Great Mom
Never once have I ever thought ill of a mother I’ve worked for. In fact, I have always admired and learned something from each one. Nannies and parents have a mutual relationship, just as the parents are looking for someone they can trust, the nanny is also looking for a family that she can connect with to help them raise a happy child. Moms you’re doing a wonderful job raising your little one(s) and she/he is going to grow up to be an amazing person because of you. If you ever need us to remind you of that, don’t ever hesitate to ask.
