Typically when we think about Halloween we don’t instinctively think about giving back. We think bowls and bowls of candy corn, scary movies, creative costumes, pumpkin carving, and for us adults, fun Halloween cocktails. Giving back traditionally is reserved for the last two months of the year, but there is no reason the giving season shouldn’t start with Halloween.
If you would like to extend the giving season in your home by a few days here are a few organizations that have created Halloween campaigns that are perfect for early giving from saving children from dying from malaria to saving the world’s environment and wildlife.
Malaria No More 1 of 4
When you donate $1 to Malaria No More's new global campaign, Power of One, you will save the life of one Zambian child from malaria. Donations will be matched through Halloween. That means saving more lives with your donations. I was invited by Malaria No More to visit Zambia and see how Power of One works firsthand. $1 really does change a life.
Bead for Life 2 of 4
Ugandan women who need a sustainable job can work with Bead for Life to create their own microenterprises. Through Bead for Life, these women earn their own money - which is extremely important for women - and gradually pull themselves out of poverty. Shop Bead for Life's Halloween collection to help these Ugandan women artisans make a living for themselves and for their families.
UNICEF 3 of 4
Through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF you'll find a great opportunity to teach your children about helping other kids worldwide on Halloween night. Encourage your children to ask for donations for UNICEF in addition to candy while trick-or-treating tomorrow night. Then gather the money your children raise and send it to UNICEF USA. Children have raised over $170 million for children worldwide since 1950.
