5 Skin Serums That Really WorkJeannette Kaplun
Skin serums are wildly popular and I’ve been a fan for years. They moisturize without being heavy, work well under makeup and help improve the appearance of your skin when you choose one that is compatible with your needs. My own skin tends to break out if I wear anything too heavy, so once I find a serum I like and that doesn’t irritate my skin or cause blemishes, I stick with it.
With fall quickly approaching, my skincare routine needs some adjustments so I decided to try out several new serums that have come out. I have been pleasantly surprised with the results. Not only did they leave my skin ultra-soft and not greasy, but they didn’t cause breakouts and did seem to improve my complexion’s texture. It would be hard to pick a favorite out of the ones I tried. They are that good. That being said, everybody’s skin and needs are different, so whenever possible, try before you buy. Just remember they are considered a treatment, so use sparingly and if you have dry skin, use your moisturizer on top of it.

5 powerful serums that do the job 1 of 6
Skin serums should feel light and absorb quickly. That's why they work well as primers or under makeup. For best results, apply a few drops over clean skin and before your regular moisturizer, if you use any.
Youth Code Texture Perfector 2 of 6
This concentrated serum from L'Oreal Paris is non-comedogenic, is mattifying and absorbs in seconds. If you have enlarged pores, over time it helps them appear smaller, especially when you apply foundation over the serum.
Price: $24.99. Available at www.lorealparisusa.com and chain drug, food and mass market retailers.
Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II 3 of 6
Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair is a classic and I've been using it for years. The firm recently introduced a new and improved version that is still light and silky, but packs in more skincare benefits, especially for those who are not getting the sleep they should (like moms) and are showing signs of aging. Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II is ideal for all skin types and proven for all ethnicities (they tested it on Caucasian, Black, Indian, Hispanic and Asian women, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean women in Asia), which is a plus in my book. It's also oil and fragrance-free, non-acnegenic, dermatologist-tested and ophthalmologist-tested. You only need to use it at night and a bottle lasts a long time.
Price: $62.00 for 1 oz. Available at esteelauder.com and department stores.
Artistry Youth Xtend Serum 4 of 6
This anti-aging skin serum from Artistry is a standout. The entire Youth Xtend collection is great if you want to diminish the appearance of fine lines and have dry skin, but for those of us who are looking for a serum that really delivers without irritating your skin, this one is great. It contains the highest concentration of the key ingredients from the Youth Xtend Collection LifeSirt, Micro-X6 Peptide, and African Baobab fruit extract.
Price: $115. Available online.
Meaningful Beauty Creme de Serum 5 of 6
Cindy Crawford looks like she hasn't aged a day and she says her Meaningful Beauty Crème de Serum helps her skin stay youthful. It has antioxidants from melon fruit to fight free radical damage, vitamins to enhance radiance and marine extracts for intensive moisture and firming. It also has hyaluronic acid, which helps fight wrinkles. The Crème de Serum is sold as part of a complete skincare set and you only need to apply once a day for it to leave your skin super soft. It does feel richer than other serums.
Price: 5-piece New Advanced System: $39.95 plus s/h for 30-day supply. Available at MeaningfulBeauty.com or by calling 1-877-383-1212
Timewise Repleneshing Serum +C 6 of 6
This serum from Mary Kay is also packed with antioxidants thanks to a potent blend of botanical sources known for their high levels of vitamin C. It absorbs in seconds and is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, which I love. My skin looked brighter after just one week of using it in the morning before my makeup and at night after cleansing my face.
