8 Great Reasons to Attend Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland

Every year, my family and I enjoy attending Mickey’s Halloween Party at the Disneyland Resort. It’s gone through many different variations since its inception in , each has held its charms. In fact, we love it so much, it’s become somewhat of a family tradition with my entire extended family. We have definitely made some Disney magic during these very unique Disney Halloween events. So, what’s the draw? Here’s 8 great reasons to go:

1. Spooky (Not Scary) Fun
Most amusement parks go over-the-top-scary when it comes to Halloween. It’s nice to have something to do with the whole family that’s appropriately spooky but not scary. I love Disneyland at night and throwing in a lot of festive surprises like playful Halloween music and projected lights make it even more fun for an annual event.

2. Put Those Costumes to Good Use
Let’s face it Halloween costumes cost a lot of money (or take a lot of time to make, depending on what kind of parent you are) so why not get better use out of your “once-a-year” costume? Going to Mickey’s Halloween Party means the kids get to wear their costume one more time this season. Yay!

3. Treats (and Healthy Snacks)
With “treat stations” parked throughout each of the Disney lands, trick-or-treating is fun and accessible. Be warned, there are lines that form at each station but the lines move quickly as do the treat bags! And, they help balance out all that sugar by providing healthy snacks as well. Apple slices, baby carrots, Craisins and dried apples and among the healthier trick-or-treating options.

4. Halloweentime is Not Just for Kids
When was the last time YOU trick-or-treated? At Disneyland, you (the adult) are encouraged to join in the fun. Everyone that enters the party gets a bag to use to collect candy so you don’t have to carry a bit of guilt. You only have to carry your own bag of treats that they pass out willingly to children of all ages. You are also invited to wear your Halloween best! Mickey’s Halloween party is the only event that Disneyland hosts where adults can wear costumes to the park and believe you me, people take that opportunity and run with it so don’t be afraid to get creative!

5. A Seasonal Twist on Disney Favorites
It’s not every day you see a Disney cast of characters in costume nor all the other Disney favorites with a Halloween twist. The park is decorated with character shaped jack-o’lanterns and illuminated (friendly) Mickey ghosts among other things. And if unique, collectible merchandise is your thing, they offer everything you can imagine (clothes, Mickey ears, accessories, pins, etc.) in spooktacular Halloween fashion.

6. Haunted Mansion & Space Mountain Transformation
Perhaps the most thrilling of all attractions is the annual transformation of the beloved Haunted Mansion. Each Halloween the mansion is recreated through the lens of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. The entire ride is transformed and it’s sight to be seen. And Space Mountain is renamed Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy for good reason, just for the season of course!

7. The Party is Exclusive
Sure, the ticket to get into the Halloween Party is a tad pricey, but keep in mind that only those with tickets to the special, exclusive event get to participate. That means, from my experience, there’s only a fraction of the people at the party than there are on any other day at Disneyland. Fewer crowds, faster lines, and some more breathing room in general always makes for a great Disney experience. Remember that the park is modified for the event (and not all rides are open all the time) and you will likely experience bottlenecks now again (especially at entry to the party) but, hey, that’s to be expected.

8. Fireworks
What’s not to love about a good firework show? And like everything at Mickey’s Halloween Party, even the firework show offers a spooky twist. A totally awesome multimedia extravaganza and fireworks show starring everyone’s favorite Disney Villains. Boo!

If you’re going to venture out this year to experience Mickey’s Halloween Party for yourself, be sure to visit Disney Sisters first. They have some tips and tricks to help make your visit even more awesome.

You can also check out the Disney blog and watch the videos on You Tube to help you decide which parts of the party you want to participate in with your family, depending on the age of your children. All the details about this special event can be found on the Disneyland News blog.
