Being a working mom who travels for business sounds glamorous to many of my friends, but the reality is that it can be quite exhausting. Not only do you need to plan ahead and coordinate everybody’s schedules, but you also have to prepare for your trip, multitask constantly, and ensure you’re doing your job. For me, that means writing blog posts, conducting interviews, taping videos, keeping my social media up to date, and of course meeting with other bloggers and the brands I work with.
Two of my closest friends got to see firsthand what my trips look like, especially when I’m attending a conference. Sure there’s time for fun, but I’m also constantly running from one meeting to another, from panel to lunch to coffee, and at the same time keeping in touch with my family thousands of miles away. My most recent trip took me to Blogalicious in Atlanta, Georgia, a conference that I love and that always fills me with great inspiration. It also allows me to see my online friends. Despite my Instagram feed which is full of smiles, I was quite exhausted because I still hadn’t recovered fully from being sick after New York.
After I got into bed that night, I had to catch up on emails I had missed that day and write a blog post. I finally fell asleep around 1 am. Would I change anything? No. I made every minute of the day count, and I love what I do. But please don’t think traveling moms have it easy or are living a glamorous life. We might love what we do but it takes its toll to try to hold everything together no matter how far away we are from our kids and husband.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s a glimpse at my first day at Blogalicious, and a peek inside the life of a traveling, working mom:
