A First Look At Cars Land And Radiator Springs Racers, Full Of Mommy Guilt

I guiltily admit I went to Cars Land without my family.

I feel like a traitor to my family. Not only did I go by myself to the Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim (I promise I was working!), but I came back with a new favorite ride.

Disneyworld is almost in my backyard so every time we have been able to visit it, we drive up to Orlando and enjoy some magical family time. On past trips we have done everything we could to get a Fast Pass to ride Soarin’ in Epcot, simply because it’s our favorite ride. That means getting to the park early; on most days, the fast passes are done for the day before noon. The effort is totally worth it: Soarin’ relaxes us and my children absolutely love all the special effects, including the smell of oranges and pine trees.

Now my favorite Disney ride is Radiator Springs Racers, the newly opened Cars Land’s star attraction. Inspired by Pixar’s acclaimed Cars, once you set foot on Route 66 and look at the fantastic job the Disney Imagineers did with the Ornament Valley, you feel you walked into the set of the movie. I feel guilty because I experienced it without my family, loved it, and it’s like I broke an unwritten rule.

The Radiator Springs Racers ride in itself reminds you a bit of another Epcot attraction, Test Track, thanks to the high-speed race and similar technology, but Radiator Springs Racers is so much more than that. It includes a scenic ride through the hand-painted Ornament Valley, a visit to Radiator Springs, seeing all your favorite Cars characters almost within your arm’s reach and then you get to race against another car. This ride was so anticipated, the day it officially opened, people stood in line for hours. Even if they had already been standing in line all night to get into the park early that morning.

Thanks to all the video I shot at Disney California Adventure Park I was able to show my kids a bit of what I experienced.  Here’s the first video I shared with them:

I felt extremely lucky to get to experience the newest Disney ride more than once during the media event, however, I couldn’t help but wish my family was there with me. Not only because I‘m sure they would have loved it, but also because I love creating memories together and I cannot wait to see Cars Land through my children’s eyes. It doesn’t matter if they’re growing up too fast. Anything we do together seems to be so much better, more fun and exciting. Also, when we go together, Radiator Springs Racers can become our family´s new favorite ride, and I’ll stop feeling so guilty for loving something new on my own.

I was excited to be a part of the Cars Land media event, which included a star-studded red carpet and exclusive access to Cars Land before Disney's California Adventure park reopened to the general public on June 15th. All my travel expenses were paid for by Disney but my opinions are my own.
