When my daughter Madeline died suddenly in April of 2009, the internet raised tens of thousands of dollars. The bulk of it – over $100,000 – went to the March of Dimes in Maddie’s name. The rest of it was donated to my family to use as we saw fit. We took that money and started a non-profit organization in our daughter’s name, Friends of Maddie.
Maddie was born over eleven weeks premature, resulting in a two and a half month hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Remembering how difficult that time was, my husband and I decided the mission of Friends of Maddie would be to support the families of critically ill babies by easing the transition into NICU life and providing an ally until the end of their child’s hospital stay.
Tomorrow would be my daughter’s fourth birthday. To celebrate her memory, my husband and I have made available a song called, “You Are The One.” All proceeds from the sale of the song will go to Friends of Maddie. It can be purchased at the following outlets:
- Amazon, Spotify, Medianet, eMusic, Zune, Rhapsody, VerveLife, Nokia, Napster
By helping keep my daughter’s memory alive, you are helping support families going through an extremely difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
