New Key Word for My Favorite Jeans Ever: MID-RISE!

By Mara Kofoed |

OK – why oh why have I not yet gotten MID-RISE jeans???

I have been missing out, I can tell you that.

I guess I’ve just been wearing normal rise jeans.  I kinda thought it was just normal that my shirts were never long enough and that the easily exposed gap between the jeans and the shirt revealed way more than I wanted it to. I mean, isn’t that normal? I didn’t know that there was a better way to LIVE.  :)

And then – I started last weekend with two new pairs of mid-rise skinny jeans from Levi’s  — same jean, just in two colors, dark denim (night fall) and blue denim (night storm). You guys, they were $34.99 each (on sale)! How is that possible?

I wore the dark pair to a rooftop party we were attending and dressed up the jeans for a date night outfit. The whole night I was beside myself  feeling like these were the most comfortable jeans I had ever worn. I kept telling Danny …. um …. these are really, REALLY comfortable. I could just stand up, sit down, walk around, hold kids, and NEVER worry that my waist or underwear were showing. I didn’t even know how liberating a piece of clothing could feel. But this was liberating.  They completely solved my problem of showing way too much at the waist.  Sure enough, one of my very fashionable friends even said, “WHERE did you get those jeans?”  Haha.  Is that not the best thing to hear the first day you wear something? I knew I was on to something good.

So — for all of us women who struggle with the rise of our jeans — join me in going MID-RISE.  GO, GO, GO !  It’s the best jean experience I’ve had.  And, they look hot.  I’ll just put that out there.

SEE SOME PICS AFTER THE JUMP!!  And see a few more date night pics here, on my blog.

wow those jeans look great on you! I always struggle to find jeans that aren’t too low and don’t look like something my grandma would wear…this could be the solution!

  2. Diane says:

They look awsome! Good for you — I’m headed over to the Levi Department as soon as I can get there. Thanks for your blog.

they look great on you and sound like just what i need. i used to be a low-rise gal, but since having kids, that just won’t do. def going to check these out soon!

I’m also a big fan of the mid-rise jean. Definitely the way to go if you’ve got problems with muffin top like I do. Those Levi’s are so cute on you, but I just found some I love from BR–the skinny straight cut.

  5. Helen says:

Mara, you look fantastic! Those jeans really suit you. If you don’t mind my asking, what size works for you? We have a similar build, and I was thinking of ordering a pair online. Thanks!

    1. Mara Kofoed says:

Hi Helen… thanks so much! So – I’m a size 2. I’m excited for you to get some! They really are so comfortable and I just love that they aren’t hugely expensive.

  6. Vanessa says:

I have those exact same jeans and I was equally ecstatic when I found them this summer (though I paid for one pair what you paid for both of yours together). I’m actually wearing them right now! They are sooooo comfy and look great- win win.

Gosh, this article makes me depressed about the state of women’s fashion and the pressures that we somehow internalize to look a certain way. You didn’t know that it was possible to have jeans that were comfortable and that didn’t show more of yourself than you wanted??! And you wore less desirable jeans for years?? Crazy!

Also, your old jeans weren’t “normal rise.” Your new jeans are “normal rise.” In the last decade, low-rise jeans became popular. Before, most jeans were cut higher. So now we have high-rise “mommy jeans’, low rise jeans that show women’s underwear, and mid-rise jeans like what you bought. Mid or maybe high are what’s “normal.”

  8. Elizabeth says:

Super cute! These are totally flattering.

  9. Meghan says:

I can’t believe how flattering those mid rise jeans are! I think a trip to Macy*s is in order!
