The Story of Friendship

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I always had the same answer when someone asked if I wanted a boy or girl. I would say, “I just want them to be happy and healthy.” That much was true, and when my daughter was born I continued to wish for health and happiness. But over the past year as I have watched my baby grow into a school age child with opinions and thoughts completely of her own, I added one more thing….the story of friendship.

Not just any friendship. I wanted her to have the kind that is an unspoken connection, they can know how each other feels just by a glance. They laugh at the world and embark on adventures together- both pushing each other one step forward and holding each other for safety. It’s a type of friendship that I didn’t really find until I was an adult, but one I know I could not do without. My little girl has found that friendship already, at the age of five, and whenever I see these two beautiful girls together, I step back in awe at how easily their conversation flows together.  It’s innocence at play and childhood at work.

The story of her first best friend is still young and evolving but it’s the story I continue to wish for my daughter. One of support, loyalty, of complimentary souls and sharing of dreams. It’s a story I hope she has for a lifetime.

What a wonderful thing for your daughter to find already. It’s so hard to be a child these days, having a friend makes things so much easier!
