Real Life Big Family Travel: From Savannah with Love

By Alli Worthington |

Savannah is full of eccentric, funny, wonderful people. They will tell you which old historic homes are haunted, ask how long you are gonna be in town and offer you some buttered grits. Did I mention that I love that town? Oh? I did? Ok. I surprised my husband with a long weekend trip for Father’s Day. We’ve had a rough first half of 2012. He had his ACL replaced and is still recovering. He’s a guy that was running miles every morning before work and is just itching to have his knee 100% again. So, for once, I managed to surprise him and we had a blast. We needed to celebrate him getting better. We needed an adventure. We survived the 9hrs in the car with happy kids because I completely broke down and downloaded Angry Birds for them. I mean, sure, we maybe could have planned the for boys to knit sweaters for the poor on the drive down but we needed to actually arrive in Savannah. And arrive we did. We stayed at the Weston Savannah Harbor Golf Resort. It was fantastic. I stay at nice hotels often because of work, but we never take family trips and stay in nice hotels because we always assumed the boys would be miserably  bored. Have you ever tried to keep 5 boys quiet in a regular hotel with thin walls? Don’t. Trust me. :) The boys swam, ate yummy meals, had crab races(!), and played ping pong for hours. I never ever had to bust out my stank-eye serious face and yell at them. That, y’all, is a vacation. When did I know I was a winner with the trip? When my husband called from the bathroom. “Hey Honey, Come look at this.” Yeah, I wasn’t sure what I was gonna walk into. He proudly showed me the TV in the bathroom mirror.                               He couldn’t believe it. The man who has been all over the world, who has seen it all, this bathroom setup blew him away. You know what that means, right? The downside was all our boys always wanted to use our bathroom. :)     In Savannah, you can catch a water ferry to ride back and forth from the island to River Street. The boys could have ridden back in forth all day happily. I have added some lovely pictures from our exploration of River street, the ferry ride and more.     nggallery template=’carousel’ id=’34′
