Of all the photos I’ve taken over the year, some of the sweetest are those of a big sibling holding his newborn brother or sister. As you can imagine, with five kids in total and each big brother wanting a turn, we have quite a collection of those photos.
Now that I’m done having babies, it’s a little sad to think we might not have any more of those shots as the kids get older. But luckily, right now the kids still have younger cousins to fill the baby void.
About a month ago my husband’s sister Beth had her first baby, and the boys and Clara couldn’t help but go gaga over adorable baby Madison when they came to visit last week.
Particularly sweet? My thirteen-year-old son Isaac, whom I nicknamed The Teenage Baby Whisperer for his mad baby-calming skills. He got Madison to go from red-faced and wailing to totally zonked out in about two minutes flat.
Once Isaac got his paws on Maddie, it was nearly impossible to get him to give her up. Which was fine, because – eventually – she got awfully comfy on his shoulder.
Is there anything sweeter than a big, lanky teenage boy getting all melty and nurturing over a tiny baby? It’s a little glimpse of the man he’ll become – a man who, like my husband, is likely to be an expert baby snuggler.
Here’s a Story sharing the moments of our visit with baby Madison. And as you can see by the last shot, baby love runs in the family.
